So i just finished my O level ( but i haven't got my result yet , so can't give a definite guide as to what to do and what not to) . Still , i feel i should pass on my 3 year experience as a O level student.
The thing about O level is that like the entire British Education System , it's based on two things :
Knowledge and Understanding .
You have to learn to balance these two things . Once you do , every subject will become easy .
You may be thinking : ''Easier said, than done'' , actually it's more like ''Easier done, than said'' .
But your journey is just beginning . We have a long way to go .
Getting Ready :
Set a goal . I mean it . Don't just say it , you have to actually believe that you can achieve it . Decide on what you want . Aim high , don't settle for moderate grades . Decide you wanna achieve the highest marks . And stick to it . Trust me , people will demotivate you , tell you that it's not possible , that you won't be able to do it . You have the ability to prove them wrong , but if you yourself believe that you can't do it then you won't .
If you get good grades , everyone will start paying more attention to you . Parents , cousins , relatives , teachers , friends e.t.c . However if you don't , people will not be as kind . And then there is the matter of competition . There are some people who take everything for a competition . If your friend , got better grades than you , they do tend to make you feel inferior . Don't get me wrong , not everyone does this , but some people do . Stay away from such people . The more you stay with them the more you'll feel under complex. Try to stay in the company people who are above this , and have more mature ideas . The reason for me telling you this is that you will need a mature mind that can think extensively if you want to tackle your O levels effectively . And staying with mature people will instill mature thoughts in you as well , allowing you to look at the world with better understanding . This is extremely important . O level is not just facts from a book or nay resource . You have to be able to learn , understand and then apply all your concepts to similar situations . This is how Examiners make the papers . They take the basic concept , and make up something and then link it with the facts in the book . You have to re-call the facts and mold them in such a way as to answer the question precisely . Many students , take this too be a test of a candidates intelligence whereas what it really is , as the Syllabus Content states , is a test of the candidates ability to think maturely.
Moving On :
Don't be fool . Don't adopt the ''Soldier Technique'' ever .This is the most commonest technique adopted by students , and one i want you to drop . It's made up of the following actions (if you do any one of these , you are a disgrace your brain) :
trying to study everything in one go ; always trying to stay ahead of other students ; studying for hours and hours without breaks ; not sleeping properly ; studying at the last moment ; opening the book few minutes before an exam ; not eating properly ; neglecting other activities ; becoming a book bug , and last but not least , wasting precious time.
I know seems contradictory , but it's not .
Tips :
1. Study in a quite place , away from distraction ( TV , computer , radio , mobile , conversations noises , siblings )
2. A timetable / schedule is a bit hard to follow (though it is helpful if you can) . Make a rough schedule in your mind . Example :
Study from 8.00am - 11.30pm and then you can watch Tv.shows , movies , or socialize . This way, you'll be able to enjoy , as you'll have studied all day ,and would have earned your rest .
3. Like i said before , don't study the whole day . That's a definite NO . Study for like 45 minutes and then take a 45 minute break . In this break you can drink water , and relax , but no TV or Internet . Then return after the break is over and study for the next 45 minutes . Repeat this until 11.30pm
4. Never try to get ahead of other students . They have their life , you have yours . Study for yourself , not to beat others .This is another sign of a mature mind. They're result will not affect you , but your's will .
5 . Realize the distinction . Better grades , mean better employment , means better lifestyle .
I won't give you tips on how to give the exams for 3 reasons :
1. I want you to figure this part out on yourself . Give some space to develop your thinking skills .
2. You can easily find such tips all over the Internet
3. It's too early , you need to study right now . Worry about Past Papers , 3-4 months before the finals .
Remember , these tips are from someone who has been through O levels .

Good Luck with your exams .
Inshallah we will succeed in both this world and the Hereafter .
