well its a gud question.
methyl orange is yellow in red in acids.its PH CHANGES AT ph 4 to yellow.
so carbonate solution is neutral.dats why the color is yellow.and when acid is added the colr will turnt to orange/RED

sorry isaid carbonate was neutral but heres some info abt it
Sodium Carbonate is a white, crystalline compound soluble in water .It forms a strongly alkaline water solution.PH 11.6
