manometer is a u-shaped tube wid mercury(or ny other liquid) inside. if u insert one end inside a tank of a higher pressure dan atmospheric pressure, da level of da mercury on the other end will rise. da pressure inside da tamk is equal to 76cm of mercury plus da height difference of mercury. barometer is an upside dwn tube in side a beaker of mercury(or ny other liquid). the atmospheric pressure is equal to da height of mercury.

da gap is a vacuum. dere is no air, coz if dere is air, da pressure caused by da air molecules will reduce da level of mercury.
ur welcum! nytym! jst pray 4 me n my xams.

question numbr 12 ,18 nd 28...........can u xplain dem plzzz http://www.xtremepapers.com/papers/CIE/Cambridge IGCSE/Physics (0625)/0625_w11_qp_12.pdf
question 12: the difference between the two levels is 20cm, so da pressure is 20cm of water more dan da atmospheric pressure.
question 18: the oil has a lower tendency to store heat than water, so the temp of da oil rises faster dan water.
question 28: wen u move da contact towards X, da resistance across L2 increases, so da voltage across it increases, makin it brighter. meanwhile, da resistance across L1 decreases, so da voltage across it decreases, makin it dimmer.
hope u understand!
