The Wonders of Ujung Kulon National Park: Our Experience in Finding Javan Rhinos and Mangrove Forests

Ujung Kulon National Park, located on the western tip of Java Island, is an extraordinary place with rich biodiversity and is home to the endangered Javan rhinoceros. Apart from the Javan rhino, this national park is also famous for its extensive mangrove forests and beautiful beaches. METAKM Com traveled to Ujung Kulon to see this natural wonder firsthand and understand the importance of conservation in the region.

1. Looking for Javan Rhino Tracks

Upon arrival in Ujung Kulon, we joined a conservation team working to protect the Javan rhinoceros, a species of which there are fewer than 80 left in the wild. We began our journey by trekking through the dense rainforest, looking for tracks and signs of rhinos.

Although we weren't lucky enough to see rhinos in person, we did find their tracks and hear stories from the rangers about their efforts to protect this species from extinction. This experience made us aware of the importance of conservation efforts and how fragile the Ujung Kulon National Park ecosystem is. We are proud to be able to contribute, even just a little, to the effort to protect the precious Javan rhinoceros.

2. Exploring Mangrove Forests and Biodiversity

Apart from rainforests, Ujung Kulon National Park also has extensive and beautiful mangrove forests. We took the opportunity to explore this mangrove forest in a canoe, which allowed us to observe the life that thrives in this unique ecosystem. We saw various types of birds, fish, and crabs that make their home in the tangled roots of the mangroves.

These mangrove forests are not only important as habitat for many species, but also serve as a natural protection for the coast from erosion and storms. Seeing this rich biodiversity makes us appreciate even more how important it is to preserve nature.

3. Enjoy the beauty of the beach and coral reefs

Our trip to Ujung Kulon would not be complete without enjoying its beautiful beaches and amazing coral reefs. We snorkeled in the clear waters and were greeted by the view of colorful coral reefs. This coral reef is home to various species of tropical fish, coral, and other sea creatures.

We also visited several secluded beaches that offer spectacular views and a tranquil atmosphere. Every place in Ujung Kulon has its own uniqueness, and we feel very lucky to be able to explore them all.
