Significant figures, often called sig figs, are the digits in a number that show how precise that number is. They include all certain digits and one uncertain digit. This may sound complex, but it becomes simple when explained properly. For example, in the number 25.6, all three digits are significant because they give useful information about the value. But in a number like 0.0025, only the digits 2 and 5 are significant. The zeros before them are not counted because they only help place the decimal point.
