Try an internship. It helps a lot in admissions.

Yeah, planning too. Might even take a new subject. Did you apply for straight econ at lse btw or the variations like Econ/History etc. ? I heard straight is the most competitive course to get into.
AlphaCentauri

I knew I was late, so I applied for something less competitive: Accounting and Finance. But depending on unis, I could've shifted to taxation or actuarial science. What were your subjects, if I may ask?
AlphaCentauri
AlphaCentauri
Straight is very competitive, yeah.
Zephyro

business, econ, math for A2. School didnt offer anyother subjects so got stuck with the combination pretty much. Doing these subjects was also a stretch considering I had to self teach myself. The teacher and school is quite terrible.
Zephyro

The only real course I can try for with these subs are Oxfords E&M and a few others who dont mind the combination. Considering taking a new subj to increase my choices though I cant figure out which one.

Business is considered as a 'soft' A Level, many good unis won't consider you. Accounting too is one, perhaps that's why LSE isn't replying to me. Try Further Maths, it's favoured.
Zephyro
Zephyro
Yeah, I know the list. Oxford's the only one who completely accept the combin as it suits the course well. LSE actually accepts business as an alternate to econ as they test the same skills even though the content is very different.
Zephyro
Zephyro
And yeah, I suppose lse isnt looking too favourable on your accounts either although your course is pretty much in the same category so it might still work out. Finding a FM teacher is quite hard or I would consider it.
AlphaCentauri
AlphaCentauri
Right that. FM teachers are like dinosaurs: extinct. -.-
Cambridge too does? My advisor told me Cambridge considers accounting.
Zephyro

Cambridge has straight economics - no variations at all. Almost 90% of the applicants trying for it have FM. They would consider accounts - no doubt - but almost all the camb colleges say fm is recommended so I dont think you should try there without it. LSE's straight econ follows the same rules aswell.

Oh... then perhaps those who got accepted didn't apply for Eco. Yes, I definitely will do FM. just as I finish with the A Levels this year. Known its importance, lol. Thanks for the info though. :)

Anyway even with FM, its quite a gamble trying there. Oxford and Camb put alot of emphasis on the thinking skills test and the interview - much more then A2 results. Competition for international students is also quite intense as typically 80% of their intakes are from the UK or inside the EU.

Dude, so what. Just do your best, and if you can't get in, tell yourself you were too good for them, lol. :p
Zephyro
Zephyro
Haha, good advice LOL. Anyway I suppose in the long run it doesn't matter much. Who knows, we might go there for grad school if not undergrad :p

Telling oneself one was too good for them is simply consolation. It doesn't mean anything.
And hmm. FM is possible alone. I'm doing it. But I will tell you that its not easy.
Also, they do put emphasis, on the TS Test and on the Interview, but I missed both. Somehow, I got in anyway. They liked me, I guess. It is a gamble, but one worth throwing.

Ah, good to know. I dont think physics applicants do the TSA anyway but It's nice to know that you didnt even need to do the interview. Good luck at cambridge though for what it's worth.

TS test? Shed some light, I feel dumb? :p

Oh well, the problem is that you get too few words in your PS and too little time in your interview to show to those elite schools who you really are. There are so many students, world toppers, who deserve to be there but aren't. Consolation... maybe. But life goes on. Where you can't stay, you pack up and make a place somewhere else.

Hmm, firstly, how do you know I'm a Physics Applicant?
Secondly, yes, they do. It depends on which college at Cambridge you apply to, actually.
And hmm, lol, yeah. Ordinarily, the interview's among the most important parts of the application. It's actually compulsory. If you do apply, take it seriously. It's not easy. And lol, thank you.

And @ Alpha, Hmm, lol, the TSA is the Thinking Skills Assessment. Basically a shit-tough aptitude test they make you do before the interview.
And lol, that's the whole point. The whole application process is about doing as much as you can with limited resources and time. That's how life is.
And yes, indeed, it is depressing after, but it does go on. Exactly.
