Quality of education depends upon teachers. During my time (3 years back) we had Sir Amjad for Maths who is very very good. Sir Azhar Mahmood for physics who is pretty decent as well. What kims lacked at that time was Chemistry teacher, so yes, maybe that's why your brother said it's not good for science.
