Ahahaha... Yeah Maths is the same for me, it depends on my mood basically.
Go through some of its past papers and you'll get an idea of what kind of subject it is.

Universities don't require it. Thinking Skills mainly helps u in giving entry tests or papers like SAT, where questions regarding Physics, Chemistry or Maths are asked in an "applied" sense! ...It improves your problem solving and helps you in solving tricky questions.
