A Physics AS Problem | Pretty Basic Stuff

Quick question, everybody. I'm sure the more experienced members such as the A2 students or the people who like to be done with the AS syllabus before even starting their A-Levels, will be able to answer in detail and with relevance. What would the best way be to 'estimate the area under (any said) graph'? I was told to 'count the number of blocks' but I dont quite get how that works.

Count the number of boxes and multiply them with area of one box.
Second method is that you divide the graph into different figures like triangle, square or parallelogram and find their areas.
