A SIMPLE APPROACH TOWARDS AI

Artificial Intelligence - The Most Promising Career Choice of 21st Century! - Sharda University Blog

John McCarthy’s definition of Artificial Intelligence:

"It is the science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs. It is related to the similar task of using computers to understand human intelligence, but AI does not have to confine itself to methods that are biologically observable."

The term intelligence is regarded as the ability to reason, an attribute which is considered to be at its best among the humans compared to other living things. Owing to this provision, it makes the humans capable of taking down extensive logic- based tasks and bringing progress to the world. As a consequence, numerous responsibilities which require to be catered efficiently get piled up. These responsibilities can become overwhelming at times. So what if the burden could be lessened rather shared?

Artificial intelligence can be defined as the ability of machines to mimic the human intelligence and therefore carry out the previously human administered tasks such as reasoning and problem solving etc. It involves the use of robust datasets to carry out problem solving. It consists of sub domains such as machine learning and deep learning which are composed of AI algorithms that create expert systems which make predictions or judgments based upon the input data. AI systems work by combining large sets of data with intelligent, fast processing algorithms to learn from patterns and features in the data that they analyze. Each time an AI system runs a round of data processing, it tests and measures its own performance and develops additional expertise.

From search engines like Google, Microsoft Bing etc. and complex calculators to chess playing bots, all are the manifestation of the above idea.

Types of AI:

Weak AI
also called Narrow AI or Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI) is AI that is trained to perform specific tasks. Most of our daily life instances regarding AI are all weak AI. They perform a set of pre-defined functions. They do not possess the ability to think.

Apple’s Siri and Alexa use the natural language processing ability to process and interpret information. From self-driving cars to interesting calls made by the Google’s AI assistant are all the examples of ANI.

Strong AI is composed of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI). Artificial general intelligence (AGI), or general AI, is a theoretical form of AI where a machine would have an intelligence equivalent to that of the humans and would have a self-aware consciousness that has the ability to solve problems, learn, and plan for the future. Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) also known as super intelligence would surpass the intelligence and ability of the human brain.

Some disciplines in AI:

Machine learning
is the formulation of certain computer systems that initiate automated learning and analyzes the data patterns to give better and better results based upon experience.

Neural Networks are a formulation which process data repeatedly to interpret meaning from previously undefined data. They operate like the neuron networks in the human brain to absorb large data sets and unveil patterns among the data and draw results from it.

Deep learning is a discipline under machine learning that uses neural networks to find the connections between the data and draw conclusions from it.

Natural language processing allows AI to understand and interpret the natural human language that further allows AI to interact with the humans in their language via text or spoken forms.

Image recognition allows AI to process visual data. It allows AI to identify and interact through visual data. This feature is predominantly found in the autonomous cars.

The AI innovations:

  • Development of Sophia the robot:
Sophia is a humanoid robot developed by the Hong Kong-based company Hanson Robotics which was introduced to the world in 2016. To hear from her, visit here.

  • Chatbots, such as chat gpt developed by open AI.

  • Biometrics.

  • Face recognitions.

  • Speech recognition by virtual assistants.

  • Healthcare through AI.

  • Cyber security through the AI.
