What can you tell me about my cholesterol number? I got a free cholesterol test at the store. They did not break down good cholesterol from bad. My total number was 218. If they broke it down between good cholesterol and bad, could the bad be any higher than 218?

I'm sorry, but it's not really that black & white. You absolutely have to get the breakdown of HDL LDL cholesterol, otherwise the number says pretty much nothing and more importantly the treatment if necessary will vary. If your doctor didn't tell you this, then you probably need to find a new doctor. You can read pretty much anything you need about this on our website, but quite honestly, I advice discussing these questions with your doctor, and do a research, check the background & qualifications, make sure you find a good doctor. You should be able to find plenty of information about the doctor you are planning to choose simply by searching a bit on google.

HDL must not below 40mg/cubic dm.
Overall cholesterol should less than 120
dont forget to check your triglyceride level( it is pre-requisite of diabetes) as cholesterol effects sugar level as well.
just avoid from all oily things and walk 1/2 hour briskly each day. Use dried beans (black baked). it lowers it significantly.
