Difference between BS & BA?

I was browsing through the Mathematics major in multiple universities and noticed that some offer Mathematics BA, while others BS. Some offered both actually. Although I read both documents regarding this matter, yet in vain. I still don't know the difference.

I would like to know the main importance between the two, as well as which one is harder and which one is more important.
