English Second Language exercises 6 & 7...?

Excuse me, but I'm a bit confused...
So are exercises 6 and 7 now always expected to come as an informal letter and a school magazine article or we can still get other types, formal letter or a book review for example? I noticed that since Nov 09 it has been like this, but I still want to know for sure as I need to start practicing them. Thanks in advance.
