Guys, I need to buy a laptop for uni and I'm going into either software or computer engineering. What sort of features will I need to look for in a laptop? If someone can tell me from personal experience, it would be greatly appreciated

Using Dell inspiron N3521. Over a year and working very smoothly. No issues at all. Even switched it on for like 50 hours but not heating issue.
Good battery life (2-4 hours depending on use)
