===> SUMMARY...that works more as a check list...
Summary
You should know that:
-there is a series of tests that help us to analyse substances
-in inorganic chemistry these tests help us to fi nd which positive ions (metals) and negative ions are present in an ionic compound
-there is also a series of tests for gases such as hydrogen, oxygen, etc.
-these analytical ideas can also be applied in organic chemistry
-quantitative experiments, such as titrations, which tell us how much of a substance we have (not just which substance we have),
can be carried out
-in carrying out experiments it is important to control the situation so that not too many conditions are changing at once
-when reporting on experiments it is important to be able to present the results clearly; possibly in a table or by plotting a graph
-this develops into the ideas of a fair test and a controlled experiment – ideas central to any experimental investigation
-the scientifi c method is based in part on these ideas, so that any hypothesis can be properly tested.
HOPE ITS USEFUL <3<3
sma786 thanks very much
add bromine water,Guys how to test for hexene ...etc hydrocarbons ?
I thought that we test ethanol by adding organic acid and then ester will form having a fruity smell , but it is not mentioned in mark scheme for nov.10 p.62 number 2Peeps!! how to test for ethanol?
You're right.. There are two ways for testing.I thought that we test ethanol by adding organic acid and then ester will form having a fruity smell , but it is not mentioned in mark scheme for nov.10 p.62 number 2
is my answer right or no?
would love to hear a reply
or you can add potassium magnate, its colour changes from purple to colourless..You're right.. There are two ways for testing.
First: Add Ethanoic acid, there'd be a fruity smell (ester)
Second: lighted splint, it catches fire.
I've only seen the second one in the mark scheme.. so use it better..
It's a reducing agent? :Oor you can add potassium magnate, its colour changes from purple to colourless..
it can be oxidised quickly by heating it with an oxidising agent such as potassium manganate or potassium dichromate and the colour changesIt's a reducing agent? :O
SO ITS A REDUCING AGENT :O how the **** can i know it.. it wasn't written in my bookit can be oxidised quickly by heating it with an oxidising agent such as potassium manganate or potassium dichromate and the colour changes
lolSO ITS A REDUCING AGENT :O how the **** can i know it.. it wasn't written in my book
Most copper salts are blue like copper sulfate, copper chloride etc..Guys what is the color of copper compounds and some solids we may encounter ??
