How the AS marks carried forward.. ?

If i got component score B , A, C in my AS exam, and after retaking, my result is A, B, C. Then the marks carried forward will be A, A, C or just the overall highest mark? I asked the lecturers, they say overall highest mark is chosen. But how come i heard some of the uni allow students to...
