for a CV right now grades will be a slightly bigger part because assuming you apply for your first internship or job.. it is all the employer has to assess you on paper .. the way you present yourself in an interview in terms of your skills, temperament etc, will be crucial
T
teachyourself
so you have
1. math
2. english
3. Add math
4. chem
5. bio
6. physics
7. sociology
8. environmental managemen
9. business studies
10. ICT
and...??

btw not knowing what kind of grades you will get shows you are not prepared enough... so in that case 13 subjects is a bad idea.. you cannot assume getting A's
T
teachyourself
if assumptions were anything to go by everyone would be able to do anything... point being you must be prepared enough and detail oriented as well as organized enough to be able to know every detail... you should be able to answer past paper questions with ease at this point of your prep

English, Urdu, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Add-Maths, Sociology, World History, Environmental management, ICT, Commerce, Business studies. Have given Pakistan studies and Islamiat in the previous class, O2.

also the world works upon the basis of realities... not assumptions... so do not appear for 13 subjects if you are not sure... because if you have lets say 6As and some Cs and Ds then it is spoils your result sheet and makes you comes across as a fool whose reach extended his grasp
T

also subjects like environmental management, ICT and commerce are useless... and carry no weight while even lack any purpose

Well, i am appearing for the midterms and mocks of these extra subjects, if i get less than an A, i'll drop that one. :p
Nabeel.Ahmad
Nabeel.Ahmad
But those useless subjects increase A's, don't they?
Doesn't a 15 A's student get preference over an 11 A's one?
T
teachyourself
the mock approach works ok not too well.. because teachers are proper examiners .. but i guess it will have to do considering you have 5 months or so
T

A's count only for credible subjects... these subjects have no weight... the universities are aware of what each course is... if you want more A's to stand out ... give Economics, etc or better still give SAT 2 Subject Tests... that is a better way to stand out amongst the crowd

Okay, one more thing.
If person X has a lot of A's in O-Level, a few distinctions too and then like 15 A's in A-Level too..
But no social skills, no confidence, no extra curriculars and no internships. Only SAT's and stuff, will that person be preferred by the Universities?
That's a general question.

I mean, some people are not that involved in extra curricular activities. One of my friend's had 21 A's in O-Level, and now he's planning on taking lots of subjects in A-Level.
So i was wondering if completely neglecting extra curriculars is bad! While on the bright side, a person can have excellent SAT score, and superb grades in A and O-Level.
T

15 As in the A-levels ? or did you mean 5... for reality's sake let us take 5A's in the A-levels ... no social skills? what exactly do you mean by that? some kind of a mental disorder? or poor interview skills? or poor presentation skills?
well it depends ... it is possible but it would depend upon the university? there will be rejections though
T
teachyourself
you need to have a balanced record... 21As and such do not mean much ... for example a student with 14 As in the O-levels, 6 As in the A-levels ended in an ok university because of a poor SAT score.. while a student who was recognized with the best 8 As in Pakistan and perfect SAT scores, SAT 2 scores ended up with a full scholarship at a top university
T
teachyourself
the second student also had a lot of extra curricular activities.. at this stage universities want to see an overall development in the student

The school debates, and all that competitions crap. People keep telling me to take a part. ._.
What if i just get good grades in O/A-Level, an excellent SAT score, and one or two internships.. Will that work out okay?
Are those school competitions required?
T
teachyourself
to an extent... grades, SATs, internships, and different few but more meaningful extra-curricular activities could be your unique point.. like social work work with Chipa or Edhi and get a letter of recognition from them... debates are good to develop public speaking skills and presentation skills along with being able to communicate clearly

Okay. :)
Well, for now i should try and get good grades in O-Level. Then i can plan on doing A-Level privately, and internships, too. Thanks for the advice.
I'll get back to you if i need more career advice.
T

but do ask universities about what they say regarding the private A-levels and internship combination.. it is always good to check stuff up on your own.. make it a habit to do so
