    10 cos ( x+ 1 /2 ) =3 x > 10 x+1/2 > 10+1/2 x+1/2 > 21/2 or 10.5 cos ( x+ 1/2 ) = 3/10 x+1/2 = cos^-1 (3/10) since cos is positive it is in first and third quadrant x+1/2 = 1.266, 5.017, 7.546 since 1.266 is smallest hence x+1/2 = 1.266 x= 1.266-1/2 x= 0.766

    2^ (y+1) = 0.2 take log of both sides log 2^(y+1)=log 0.2 (y+1) log 2=log 0.2 y+1=log 0.2/log 2 y+1= -2.3219 y= -2.3219 -1 y= -3.3219 y= -3.32 (3 significant figures)
