    2 Carboxylic groups have mass (2*45) = 90. Therefore mass of CxHy = 132 - 90 = 42 Hence, 12x + y = 42 Apply trial and error, when x = 3, 36 + y = 42 y = 6. x cannot be greater than 4. At x = 2, y = 18. At x = 1, y = 30. Both of which are not possible. Hence, x = 3 , y = 6.

I solved the papers from 2003-2008. This guess paper is mostly (almost all of it) from the past papers.

Naming the apparatus? Just know, Titrating flask - Your normal everyday flask. To measure 25 cm^3, 50cm^3 accurately - Pipette. To measure larger volumes approximately - Measuring cylinder. To heat, stir, mix solutions - Beaker. To collect (sometimes) and measure volume of gases - Gas syringe...

I didn't know about iron (never read about it), so I googled it and blackish type compounds showed up. Just add the words shiny grey or shiny black, you'll get the mark(s). :)

NO and CO are neutral oxides. They react with oxygen in the air to form acidic oxides. 2NO + O2 ---> 2NO2

    Chemistry ATP Tips

Yeah, I know. I corrected it. It is neutral oxide + air ---> acidic oxide.

    Chemistry ATP Tips

Actually, this is incorrect, sorry, it is Neutral Oxide + Air ---> Acidic Oxide. AhsanAfzal. Sorry for the mistakes, I wrote this in a hurry. :/

I don't know for sure because the mark scheme does not say anything about this. It's better that you write it in decimal form because we don't know for sure!

Steam is well, a gas. It is water vapour, but when they ask, the reaction of sodium and iron with water, I think they mean water, not steam. :P

I was thinking of the exact same thing. Iron reacts with water (and air) to form rust (brown solid). The thing is they're only asking for the reaction with water. Iron doesn't react with water, it reacts with steam, so that's that. :)
