    Oh, well I appear to have done that wrong then. Neither of my critical values had the term 'a'.

    It did ask for a range of values. There was a quadratic equation in x. When you applied the quadratic formula, in the last step, 'a' was in both the numerator and denominator so it was cut out of the expression.
