about percentage/grading system in AS and A2

Can anyone clear my doubts?. i'm wondering how CIE calculate for all that % . i heard that AS results only stand 40% and A2 is 60% for overall A-level results. are there any way to calculate so that i can know about what marks i should score in order to get an A? . THX.
