guys get over ur Bs and Cs... just decide one type you are gonna attempt and work on it. like if u choose descriptive, write a little descriptive note every day.
and i have an idea. there is a thread for vocabulary in here and watch it and follow the waterfall of new words for all those planning to do descriptive.

go with what u can dot he best. i do descriptive mostly and many people tell me not to do it since it should be ur last choice but the thing is, there is no point of doing narrative or argumentative or discursive if u cant carry it through as good as descriptive. trust me, i dunt think cie examiners are biased when it comes to ur choice. they just mark whats written

Descriptive topics are for weaker candidates , who don't have a sound ability to write in Standard English . So the examiners include a topic on which these candidates can easily write on and score passing marks and not flunk in the subjects . Apart from that , the topics are dry . There isn't much to write , and mostly , people run out of ideas and start repeating stuff and giving vague ideas . The Cambridge Examiners have themselves stated that the higher scoring candidates avoid these topics and they are pitfalls and traps set to pull the stronger candidates to a lower grade.
Argumentative topics are best left unnoticed . As , at an average , 16 year olds , we don't have enough experience in life to argue on such sensitive topics , although we think we can. And mostly , the candidates end up turning abusive ; swearing and cursing and blaming .
Discursive are for either very poor candidates or very strong candidates so again avoid these .
The only sensible choice , as the examiners say , is a narrative. Candidates can mold the story around the given event in whatever way they want. They can make the story whatever they want , given it stays on track . The can make their own beginning and their own ending . This is far more easier then writing 495 -500 words (this is the ideal word count ) of topics , the candidate soon gets tired of . A narrative , is not based on facts , but imagination .
This was the advice given to us my our English teacher , who has an experience of 15 years and has taught 13 batches . She took classes from the CIE examiners , personally , so i guess this advice can be taken seriously!

only go for it , if your teacher , personally tells you that you are capable enough and can do it well.
