AOA.
I have just completed my O Levels this June and will InShaAllah start my A Levels. I had a few questions and confusions and will greatly appreciate your advice.
Firstly, I am a science student and have given 11 subjects in O levels (Bio, Phy, Chem, ICT, Commerce and English Lit along with the 5 compulsory ones) so which subjects do I go for in A levels? ATM, I've almost certain to choose Phy, Chem, Maths and ICT in A Levels. Is this fine? Furthermore, should I give another subject? If so, then which one? I am planning to go for (electrical/software) engineering, IA, so kindly recommend me a good subject combination. And AS or A2? Its quite confusing :S.
And 11 subjects in O Levels are fine, right?

Secondly, I did not take Add Maths in O levels (studied in for one year in O1 then dropped it) and I've been hearing this alot that those who did not study it will have alot of difficulty in doing A Level Maths, blah blah blah. I'm good at Maths Alhamdulillah, but then again I've seen how add math students were troubled by the subject which lead to a doubt whether I'll be able to do it or not. Its quite confusing, as one side of me wants to enjoy the vacations whereas the other one wants me to do some A Level Maths... What should I do according to you guys? Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance! :)

If you're going from electrical/software engineering then I think that's a pretty good combination of subjects. What components in Maths are you giving? I recommend you take P1, S1, M1 and P3. And yes, 11 subjects in O-levels is more than fine. Pray that you get a good result. :)

Why did you drop Add Maths? If you found it a bit hard then you may find P1 a little bit hard, that's about it. P1 is quite similar but Add Math is similar to it in many ways. I don't think you should worry much about this though, it's not really that difficult (and it shouldn't be since you said you're good at Maths).

You don't need to study any A-level stuff during your vacations, relax and enjoy. :p Your teachers should cover all of the syllabus.

Thanks for the reply!
Yes, I do plan to give P1, P3, M1 and S1. IA! By the way, is it advisable to give one of these subjects in AS?

I just chose ICT and dropped Add Maths, lol. But I didn't find it that difficult, especially not the stuff taught in O1, so hopefully IA i'll have no problem. :)

Thats a relief. Some students are planning to take tutions already so that got me a bit confused!

What do you mean when you said "is it advisable to give one of these subjects in AS?"? I think you should give all of those subjects in AS as well as A2.

And don't worry about those who are already taking tuitions. :p I honestly think they are just wasting their time, money, effort, etc. You'll manage to do well InshAllah as long as you don't study at the very end of the year only. Study throughout the year and clear your doubts with your teachers as you're covering topics of the syllabus. I've already done my first year and I can say that Maths, Chemistry and Physics aren't really that hard, and they shouldn't be especially if you were good at these subjects in your O-levels. I didn't take ICT but from what I know it's not that tough either.

Hmmm, but I've heard its better to give them in A2. Is that correct?

And thanks once again. That lifted my confidence :p. Time to relax nowadays then. :D
