Reading Chem master thread reminded me of this:

3a = 3b
11a = 11b
3a^2 = 3ab
11ab = 11b^2
3a^2 - 11ab = 3ab - 11b^2
3a^2 - 3ab = 11ab - 11b^2
3a^2 - 3ab + ab - b^2 = 12ab - 12b^2
3a(a-b) + b(a-b) = 12b(a-b)
3a + b = 12b
3a = 11b
3b = 11b
3 = 11
:? ??? :?

0+0=0.....
@saud: basically it is a mathematical strategy....to prove "anything=anything"

Chem, you got that partially right (How can you say a-b=0?) :?:

It is actually a mathematical strategy that make use of loopholes in algebra to make 'anything=anything' (thats pretty explicit wording)

Here is the spoiler for this one:
This one sneakily divides thing to 0, which causes the whole havoc.
As 3a = 3b
so 3a - 3b = 0
so 3 (a-b) = 0
so a-b = 0/3

Had a-b = 0, then the equation had to be started as a=b not 3a = 3b

a=b....there fore a and b has same values e.g a=3 so b=3 as well
and then:
a-b=3-3=0

@Chem Master: Well in the equation a is made equal to b. So when you say a-b= 3-3 = 0, you dont actually point where the equation is going wrong, :|

As for myself, I did it wrong cause 0/3 = 0

0+0=0.....

What you say is right but it does not prove where the equation goes wrong

The equation goes wrong here:

As you said a=0 and b=0
3b = 11b (The second last step of the equation)
So 3b x 1/b = 11b x 1/b (Multiplying the equation by 1/b)
As b=0
So we are actually dividing equation by 0, and anything divided by zero is undefined.
