Because water and other polar molecules and charged ions cant pass through the phospholipid bilayer since the interior is hydrophobic and hence it needs facitilated diffusion

Well yea i gave the details like it binds to the terminal amine groups etc and then in the lungs it breaks down and escapes off as CO2
