AS Level Sociology Help

What is meant by objectivity and subjectivity in sociology? and what is functionalism? and what is meant by "realist" approach in science. Plz help.

wel i have up till now studied objectivity and subjectivity part. all that i could understand is that something which is objective will hold same status for every one in terms of priority and its meaning and purpose will be same for everyone. But subjectivity refers to giving values, preferences, interpretations and importance to something on purely self interest and value judgement basis.
DO TELL ME WHETHER I AM RIGHT OR NOT, AS I AM, MYSELF, NOT SURE ABOUT THE VALIDITY OF WHAT I HAVE WRITTEN ABOVE i.e. all that i have written can be wrong too.....

Objectivity is whereby the personal values of the sociologist do not influence his research and the way he interprets his results and is usually achieved when scientific methods like close ended questionnaires etc are used and the sociologist is not personally involved in collecting data. Subjectivity is where by the personal values and beliefs of the researcher influence his result as with participant observation where sociologist is directly involved in the process of collecting data.
Functionalism is a theory in Sociology which states that society is like a human body where every organ (in this case ur social institutes like family and education etc) plays an important part in maintaining a society. Important functionalist are Talcott Parson and Emile Durkheim.
Realist approach belies that sociology is like science e.g we have subjects like astronomy and physics which study matter and atoms etc which cant be seen with the naked eye and yet we believe in their existence. Similarly we cant see processes like labelling or socialistaion with our eyes but they are taking place. So scientific methods can be used to study sociological phenomena and sociology is a science.

U need to add all the names of sociologists and their research on this subject e.g mention a realist's name while u r writing about them e.g Kuhn etc.... also try to study from the book by haralambos. If u cant do that then go through the past papers....
