Hey there everyone, I need urgent help due to the fact that the exam is tomorrow. Sorry for being of annoyance but, I'm facing great problems with calculating number of minimum nucleotides and such.. I'll post them as attachments.

Thanks in advance.

If you can, please show me how you got the answer (calculations) and if you could describe what you did.
Thanks a lot. :)

23 C as 3 bases code for 1 amino acid so 6000 bases codes fro how many aa by cross multiplication it's 2000 (6ooo nucleotides means bases as each nucleotide conatins one base )

each trna carries one AA so 10 amino acid needs 10 trna

Actually the mark scheme says its A.
I did the same thing you did but as I said, it's incorrect.

It said B, the answer is 1000.
Sorry for the mistake. ^_^

2000 is for 2 strands.For 1 strand it'll be 1000.
U take it to 1 strand coz they say itz beeen transcribed and translated where only 1 mrna strand undergoes this.

Re: BIOLOGY 9700 Problems with Amino acids, help URGENTLY ne

13) The ans is C, cz if there are n no of aa and r no of aa present in a chain it has to obviously be n x r.
21) During polypeptide formation only one strand is involved, so it has 2 be 120/2=60 bases.
3 bases code for 1 aa, therefore 6o bases= 60/3= 20 aminoacids.ans =A

22 i guess is a repettion of the 18th one!
Hope it helps!

Brilliant! But there seems to be a problem.. :/ The mark scheme says that number 13 is A (n^r)

Re: BIOLOGY 9700 Problems with Amino acids, help URGENTLY ne

the ans for Q18 is A-4
because there r 10 amino acid of four different type......means atleast 4 different t-rna is required ,these t-rna molecule can b used again and again so the minimum no is 4

Q7 ans C-144
12 different amino acid,,,and we r asked different possible dipeptides
using simple permutation
12p1*12p1
=144
Q24 ansC
there r 20 different amino acids in human
so 20 different t-rna is required

Q 13 ansA

let me take for instance, r=2 and n=5
now the polypeptide being made has 2 amino acid(dipeptide) and i have 5 different amino acid ,,,,,,look back to q-7
possible different dipeptide is 5p1*5p1=5^2 =n^r

Q23-ans B

the no of nucleotide taking part in protein synthesis is 6000/2=3000 because only one strand of dna is involved
every 3 nucleotife code for a amino acid molecule ....total no of amino acid is 3000/3=1000

Q21 ansA
120/2=60 nucleotide take part in transcription
3 nucleotide code for one amino acid,,, 60/3=20 amino acid made
:) :) :) :) :) hope that this helps........all the bst guys
