The folding of the polypeptide chains into alpha helix or beta pleated sheets is known as the sec structure... The shape is held in place by hydrogen bonds between CO and NH groups... Hope that helps

there are 2 forms of proteins in 2ndry structure:-
1) alpha- helix: this is when the poly peptide molecule (protein) is folded into helix(spriral) shape. the -CO of the carboxyllic acid group forms bonds with the -NH of the amine group of the amino acid. this bonding results in the polar characteristic(hydrophilic). these bonds are called the hydrogen bonds which hold the alpha helix shape in order

2) beta-pleated sheets:- not all poly peptide molecules are formed in alpha helix shape. some of them are formed into loose and straight sheets called the beta pleated sheets. these sheets are again held by the hydrogen bonds.

hope this helps :D

Assalamoalaikum!!
@larina ...the same as urs....the black one...by mary jones :)
Anyways i have one more question....how many aminoacid chains are there in each haemoglobin....like each of it has 2 alpha and 2 beta chains now hom many amino acid molecules does each have?like my teacher said one has 141 and one has 146 but i just want to confirm..plz !! :)
Jazak Allah Khair!!
