Malaria is caused by a parasite that reproduces in the host's cells, but people with sickle cell anaemia have sickle shaped red blood cells and carry less oxygen which is not sufficient for the parasite to reproduce unlike in normal red blood cells so, the person with sickle cell anaemia is immune to malaria. If the person suffering from sickle cell anaemia is heterozygous than he/she has only 40 % of his red blood cells sickle shaped and can survive, if the person is homozygous he has no chances of survival .....
This is connected to natural selection also since people with sickle cell anaemia have better chances to resist against malaria and so this trait is passed on to the next gerneration...

hope it helped
Cheere ! :)
