Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Bararkatuhu, Dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam!!
In the present generation, present situation, present etiquettes AND present food, alot of changes have come into being. Many of us do not know, about many things which had values in the past, and one of these things is FOOD and DRINKS..
This thread has been created to let you all know about those food items which the HOLY PROPHET(May Allah's peace and Blessings descend upon him) liked and spoke of. First of all, Let me tell you, what The Prophet liked to eat and drink..
The Holy Prophet relished the meat of foreleg and on one occasion when it was offered to him, he took A BITE of it, i.e he did not cut it with a knife or any other thing. He especially liked roast meat and pumpkin as condiment. According to Hazrat Aisha bint Abu Bakr, The Prophet had a liking for vinegar, olive oil, sweets and honey. The Holy Messenger is reported to have eaten chicken, red duck, mutton, beef and flesh of camel. He relished Surid, a soup mixed with bread crumbs and pieces of meat. He also ate black pepper and spices. He is reported to have eaten Dates(dried, raw or ripe) beet and Hasa, a soup madeof flour, water and either oil or clarified butter/cheese.
(NOTE- The Last Messenger of Allah was poor. These food items might have been eaten by him, on a few occasions as the Prophet did not approve of living a luxurious life.)
He liked sweet cold water. He used to drink water and milk as well as water obtained from steeped dates from the same cup.
NOW, lets see what Muhammad (PBUH) said about some particular food items..
1- VINEGAR: The Holy Prophet(PBUH) once said," What a nice condiment vinegar is."(Shamail-e-Tirmizi)
According to another tradition, he is reported to have said that the house in which there is vinegar, there is no need for a condiment.(Ibn Majah)
2- OLIVE OIL: The Prophet (PBUH) said, " Use olive oil in food as also for annointing, for this comes from a blessed tree." (Shamail-e-Tirmizi)
3- MEAT: In a tradition, it occurs that the meat of the hip-joint is the best meat. (Shamail-e-Tirmizi)
4- WATER-MELON WITH DATES- The Prophet used to eat water melon with dates and say that the heat of one is broken by the coolness of the other. (Hazrat Aisha Bint Abu Bakr)
5- MILK- The Messengenger of Allah said that excepting milk, there is nothong which could serve both as a food and drink.(Nashrut-Tib)
6-FRUITS AND VEGETABLES- He used to take fruits and vegetables with their correctives.( Zadul Ma'ad)
LET US BENEFIT FROM THE NOBLE TRAITS OF THE LAST MESSENGER OF ALLAH (Salallahu Alaihi Wassallam!!)
