basically, the total weight is always redcuced by 8% before delivering to the maltings( originally 20%, brought down to 12%- net 8% decrease). so work it out. for (a), 8% of 1080 is 86.4. subtracting it from the original, we get 1080 - 86.4 = 993.6. this is insufficient. for (b), we get 1100-88=1012. and you have your answer! =)
