chemistry mark scheme error?

Q. A piece of substance reeatcs with acid very fast. What would slow down the reaction?
The obv answer is : a) larger pieces dilute acid
But in mark scheme it shows small pieces dilute aciidd :S

when it comes to cie they are very careful about they are so much confident, that they have the rights to stay silent when they make a mistake in mark scheme , so anyway the reason less smaller pieces , less surface area so slow reaction, how many subj are u appearin? Pray for me i'm struggling with physics
