I don't think so. I don't see it in specification either.
No you don't have to know in full detail or anything, they'll ask questions which are at our level. The only time I have seen this propanone and iodine menioned is in June 2011 U4 paper and there they asked us questions of our level i.e Titration, Reaction rate.

because a racemic mixture of the 2 enantiomers is formed which cancel each others optical activity hence giving optically inactive solution
it wont come... the mechanism is tooo big like there are 3 to 4 steps... and mostly they give small mechanisms which are of three marks if this comes then it will be more than 4 marks... they can however ask the mechanism for the rate determining step but i dont think they will ask the whole mechanism.
