Stephen Doyle's book is quite popular but I've never used it. Tony Rackham has a book too but it covers only a small part of the syllabus.
So I reccommend reading and using the booklets provided in the IGCSE section for computer studies on this site. They're quite good.
Practise past papers too.

STEPHEN DOYLE'S BOOK IS NOT REALLY ACCORDING TO SYLLABUSS:
i prepared according to it but founf past papers difficult. the i started "Cambridge IGCSE Computer Studies" by Cambridge University Press. This book IS THE REAL BOOK FOR O LEVEL CST.
after reading the chapters from here, past papers look like piece of cake. this book has very helpful cd-rom as well but i never used it my self.
you can A* if u read it carefully and fully understand it and then practice as much past papers as available with mark scheme(2003-2012)

I am also using the same book, did you study from the book only or you took help from any teacher along with it too?
Actually i am studying it on my own so want to know whether this subject can be done on self study or not.

Computer Studies is an easy subject for O levels and could be self-studied. But perhaps for some things such as pseudocode, logic gates and circuits etc you might ask for help from any Computer Studies teacher in your school in free time.

It can be. I am having no teacher at school(our sir left the school) but it hardly made any difference. They did not tell us anything outside book(although there were somethings from doyle's book which he told) and markschemes.

Yes

i also have that book, u can read the first few chapters for computer theory , rest of the book is practical like using MS WORD, EXCEL, etc which u can ignore
these practical things also come in past papers. for example question says that how the same formula in a cell can be copied or how the cells can be sorted in descending order. sometime the question ask the features of CAD program. so using the software just for noting main features or reading about their features is also necessary.
