hey guys, i am new here. after going through this forum i realized that i would get some real good suggestions from people with first hand experience. :)
my dilemma is that i do not know people who can give some clear cut advice without confusing me. :( so i have many questions to ask.
i am a student of O3. i take physics chemistry and biology. i will be appearing in june2011 for these along with maths and english.
i currently am contemplating taking some extra subjects...
i have already appeared in june 2010 in pak studies islamiat and urdu.
my school has finished the policy of appearing on the school's behalf in november. (weird, seeing many of my seniors appeared in november)
so my first question, would it hurt to appear privately in november? i heard that you lose some of your credibility as a good student if ur o levels result shows that u appeared in so many subjects but in various episodes.
secondly i am confused as to which extra subjects i am supposed to take, both for this november(if appearing privately doesnt hurt) and in june 2011. would sociology, commerce, world history, pure geography require tuition? how long would it take to complete each subject? i have a friend who takes business studies and says that if i could manage, i should take it... is she right?? my urdu teacher told me that i could appear in 2nd language urdu if i wanted bcus god forbid, if i dont get an A or A* in urdu a, my urdu b grade could be considered. does that happen??
my dad is a gold medalist is in maths. seeing that o levels offers add maths as a subject, he thinks i should polish my skills in maths. so here is a question that makes me shudder... can i complete my add maths syllabus in one year approx and aim for a good grade in add maths as well as not cause any adverse effects on my other subjects??? i know this question sounds a bit too ambitious but i am good at maths. on the other hand i am aware that add maths is not a piece of cake...
lastly i wanted to ask that besides extra knowledge and polished paper solving skills and broadening my horizons of thinking... would the universities here and abroad would give an extra bit of credit for my extra subjects..??? my sister wont let me take these extra subs without any benefit at the university level.

now with so many questions (and more coming...) ill leave you all to marvel at the extent of confusion my brain suffers from. kindly answer my questions with as much detail as you can and as quickly as possible. my parents would be leaving for umrah in a few days for 15 days. i CANNOT waste further time and must inform them of my final decision .

well read ur lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng lonng question.........was about to run buh no a lil advice..

Look you can analyse yourself in a much better way! No need to waste time and since a year or hardly 10 months are left , you must start

preparing if you have high ambitions and goals!!!
As far as appearing as a 'private candidate ' is concerned, if you are prepared well you must go for it. their's no point of getting confused! If you get an A (InshAllah) you'll get the credit. But god forbid you get a B while you appear from the school side, then WhAT??? So if you are well prepared, just jump in!!! Ya, if

you are giving Olevels in parts, you'll only be able to show those grades that you got in one go in . But the over all result would be counted as one in medical!

I have seen so many students preparing 'sociology, commerce, world history, pure geography and many others on their own and getting straight A's! Again if you think you really need some coaching go for it: common sense :)

The universities here used to credit the 'extra' subjects before but as far as I know, 'now' they don't. If you really wana break a record then you must appear in extra subjects, otherwise don't make subjects like chem phys and bio suffer!

Maybe you'll be able to score a distinction in any of the science subjects if you just focus on them.

Just PLAN CLEVERLY! ;)

Hope I've helped you :)

sorry to say i cant ans all your questions.
but i was a add math student and had given its paper in june2010.
i you are good in maths as you have written then appear in add maths paper.
i suppose one year is more than enough.
i started add maths 6 months before papers and it did not distrub my other subjects.
but be careful . dont be too ambitious. make a plan and give enough time on each subject.

AND PLEASE DONT POSE TOOOOOOO MANY QUESTIONS AT ONE TIME.

think about environmental Management as an extra subject, It's a child's play if u are good in Geography.

Hope I’m not too late.
Well Ayesha, as far as the matter of ‘Appearing as a Private Candidate’ is concerned, I think it won’t hurt you only if you are well prepared and think dat u can do well enough. But as you are planning now and didn’t plan yet for which subjects to appear in (dis November), my advice would be that don’t go for it.
To answer your next question, YES u can appear in Urdu (B) if you get a BAD grade (God forbids) in Urdu (A)… but do give Urdu B’s paper in May/June 10 along wid your other subjects, as it is really a piece of cake.

I’m very glad that your father is a GOLD MEDALIST, that’s very impressive; our GLOBAL MODERATOR (Zohaib) is also a GOLD MEDALIST.
Answering your next question, I’d say dat u should take ADD MATHS, n itz syllabus can easily be finished in 1 year if u study it on regular basis. In fact 6 months are also ample for its completion.
In plain words, I’d say that go for PHY, CHEM, BIO, D-Maths, ENG, ADD MATHS and Computer Studies as your subjects.
And ya, of course Good Luck 4 ur results in AUGUST for those 3 subjects (P.st, Isl n Urdu)

Hope my suggestions help you out. And please don’t bother asking anything. :) :)

A piece of advice...plz next time post in CORRECT section, If I'm not wrong!!! :)

My advice. Appear for 3 to 4 subs in November, privately. These subjects can include Statistics, Sciology, EM and World history. You only require tution for statistics among these subs. Baki u can easily do at home in 2 to 3 months. Read a buk, solve 10 years past papers and u r ready to give the exam. Just need full concenteration. Later in June u can give full time to ur main subs and dun risk the grades.
