We did so much for you, we helped you get the test status. We were the first test team that you were able to beat in an ODI. We even sent our players to your premier league. We told you time and again that we will give you presidential level security. Our dearest interior minister gave you a briefing himself. We were even willing to support your chairman’s bid for the ICC vice-presidency. Last but not the least we were one country once and even then we used to do so much for you but just like then you broke our heart. You changed your mind when it mattered the most. Should we now boycott your premier league (no we wont, our players want the money as we cant participate in the Indian premier league)? Should we not tour you in the future (no not that, the board needs the money)? Should we not support your ICC’s vice-presidency bid (yeah and by doing that we will further isolate ourselves from the asian cricket bloc)? Before I keep mocking this situation lets get down to business and see the cards that we have on the table.

Bangladesh team was supposed to visit us to play an ODI and a T20 match at the Qaddafi stadium. They were going to be the ‘visitors’. Visitors, let me remind you are never forced to visit some one. They could visit when ever they feel like. Even the ICC rules tell us that any team can cancel their tour citing security reasons. During this whole episode we tried to use the ICC vice-presidency vote as a bait for the Bangladeshi cricket board’s chief, Mustafa Kamal. He had almost fallen for it when the Dhaka high court intervened and issued a stay order against this tour. The PCB out of frustration was quick to issue a press release, let me quote some lines from this press release “Pakistan Cricket Board notes with extreme concern that the Dhaka High Court has today issued an injunctive order against the forthcoming Pakistan Tour of Bangladesh Cricket Team.

PCB has been extremely disappointed due to the creation of this new situation. Did the PCB just say that are disappointed by a legal order of the court of law of Bangladesh. What else can they do to further mishandle the situation. After a few hours, the chairman PCB while talking to Geo news, gave a sensible comment when he said that the lack of co-ordination between the Punjab Government and the Federal government gave a wrong signal to the Bengalis.

I had earlier mentioned that this issue would deteriorate the situation and this is exactly what happened. Instead of crying like a baby why cant we accept the fact that yes! Pakistan is still not a safe place to tour and we were unable to convince the Bangladeshi people that our country is as safe as theirs. Let me also remind you that during this whole episode the khadim-Alla of Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif did not issue a single statement on the security of the visitors. During the visit of the BCB chairman, Mustafa Kamal, the chief minister and his favourite law minister, Rana Sanaullah were not even present there. Dont you think the Bengalis read the web editions of our newspapers, dont they have embassies here which gives them information on the on-ground security situation of the country. Our security situation is so bad that we have not even been able to attract foreign investment but we want that the Bengalis should visit no matter what.

In the end a word of praise for the chairman, he did his best but I would like to use his own quote here; when he was asked by some journalists after the general council meeting of the PCB in Lahore a few days ago that if the bengalis would visit us, he had replied that jut like the Asia Cup final, the result would come out on the last ball. Well Mr. Chairman the last ball has been bowled and we lost it, so instead of crying like the Bengalis after that Final match and challenging the result, show some sportsman spirit and concentrate on the next match.
