Is it important to write date in informal letters? I pray that the examiner asks the students to begin with "dear sir".

it can be a letter to principal or your aunt or friend......and it would be " start your letter with "to the principal" if it is a report" for speeches you have to start with ladies and gentlemen....or dear students.....no date or anytihng else
