Hey guys..
Please help me clear my doubts..
When you are told to write a letter to the editor of a magazine expressing your views on a particular topic, is it supposed to be a formal letter?? And yeah.. is the reference also supposed to be written??

Ofcourse informal..
Oh and if you're gonna write dear Mr blabla (his name) you have to end it with yours sincerely, If you're gonna write just dear sir/Miss (no name) then end it with yours faithfully.

Formal letters should be to your friends/family etc..

There are two types of writing formats:
First: Informal
Second :Formal

Informal:
try to always start with a congratulation or an apology ex: Sorry i haven't written lately I've been too busy revising for my exams
OR Congrats on your test, job well done!
*try to personalize it, mention your friend ex: My first day as an assistant in a saloon was difficult,as difficult as that time we tried to......
Formal:
Always start with a transition sentence EXCEPT if it is a magazine article then, you start with a question ex:
Do you believe in Happiness? Do you think being happy is just a state of mind? research has shown that...
and continue all the way through
1 more tip if you have enough information to balance both ads and disads then i suggest you go for ARGUMENTATIVE
if you have more ideas on a single idea then go for DISCURSIVE and dont forget to leave a suggestion at the end to leave the examiners hangin' :p
BEST OF LUCK!
