note that in jun08, the question wants SOLUTE POTENTIAL
and that in nov 03, the question wants SOLUTE CONCENTRATION

to make it easy
for a lot of solute, the solute concentration is high and the solute potential is low.

CLEAR?

jus understand this way..less solute potential means..it has got less solute..therefore must have high amount of water..means high water potential!!

that means low solute potential = low water potential and vice versa ?

Low solute potential= high water potential..!!

then how come the answer for w08 is low solute potential ? it has low water potential..

Assalamoalaikum!!

but the er says that a low solute potential means higly negative water potential....and highly negative potential is actually low water potential! so what hassam is saying is correct! :) 8)

when a question is referring to POTENTIAL, then its talking about water.
i found this statement on one of scientific websites and it said "The more solute molecules are present, the lower (and more negative) it is (the solution)." and therefore in a phloem tube or sieve element, there is a high concentration of sucrose (solute) meaning the answer is A for q25 in nov 03. but in jun 08 it said solute potential, meaning the water potential and therefore its C because water potential is low.
which brings the conclusion that solute POTENTIAL is the same as water POTENTIAL, but solute CONCENTRATION is not the same. you can say they are reversely proportional
hope this helps :D
