For Math A level, average amount of marks to get to still get an A is around 175-190/250.
For Chem A level, average amount of marks to get to still get an A is around 160-180/260.
Both depend on the papers, and if they were easy or hard. Just aim to not lose more than 60 marks in Maths, and not more than 80 marks in Chemistry

That's for an A.
For an A*, I think both had to be above 201/250 or 201/260 roughly. You can check yourself by looking at the GT of 2011 and 2012 (Oct + May June). They have two pages of the lists of the scores you need to get for A or A*

There's a logic behind that. The raw marks of AS are 140 but the scaled marks of AS are 130 (as mentioned in the GTs).that's ur wild guess right
So, by applying weightage to the respective components:
P1: 0.31*130= 40.
P2: 0.46*130=60.
P3: 0.23*130=30.
As the raw marks of P1 and P2 are the same as scaled marks, they remain the same but the raw marks of P3 out of 40 are converted into 30. Hope you get it now.

sagystu The weightages of each paper are given in the syllabus i-e 31% of P1, 46% of P2 & 23% of P3. I used them to come up with these calculations.

as much as i know and heard from my teachers in chem and phy u could lose like 70-80 marks (all components) and still get an A* like 180-190 out of possible 260
and in math (toughest one) it varies from 210-230 out of possible 250 in all components
