Halogenalkanes

I'm a bit confused..
Primary and secondary alkanes react differently (SN1 and SN2)
So do primary halogenalkanes react with ammonia, cyanide ions etc.?
Or is just the the tertiary halogenalkanes that are able to?

Primary seconday and tertiary halogenoalkanes can all react. And secondary halogenoalkanes can go thru both Sn1 and Sn2

SN2 & SN1 are just the mechanisms going on in reactiöns of primary,secondary n tertiary haloalkanes. Whereas, all three react with ammoia, CN ion and so on.what matters is the mechanism and ease of reaction.
