Hey
can anyone help me with this question?
"Why did the british govt take control of the affairs of the East India Company in the early nineteenth century"?(7 Marks)
Your help will highly praised!
Thanks a bunch for this detailed answer!!the eic company was a private trading company in india. the eic was making a lot of money out of trade and even thought 10% of the tax was given to the british government they were still unhappy. the british government was suprised that a private company was making so much money. so the british government didnt want most of the money to go to the subcontinent so they took control of the eic and took control of all the money made by the eic.
another reason was beacause the British were afraid that the russians would expand into Afghanistan and take control of it. If that were to happen then the russian would have an easy route to enter the subcontinent throught Afghanistan and would be able to capture or take control of the affairs and mobey of the eic. The British government took control beacause they thought that if this were to happen then the eic was not strong enough to fight russia and it needed trained and experienced british soldiers.
Lastly they took control of the eic beacause the british were nothing but greedy and wanted all the money to themselves. the british government beacame exploited as the company made huge profits from monopoly of the trade in Bengal. Also company merchants became accustomised to recieve personal gifts which increased their wealth and greed
......
Hope this will help you
