Hi brother! ^^
The first thing to do is not to learn by heart. Try to get the concepts straight and understand very well what you are learning. if there is some part that u are stuck with, ask ur tutor or friends or post them in threads here. I assume that u are an A-level student: While u do your practicals at school, try to understand the chemistry of them, for instance, this should be fully done when u are doing salt analysis questions. try to write balanced equations as far as possible for your personal understanding BUT do not write them on the day of practical exams when u are not told to do so, just at school for u to understand what's going on. The colours of some elements is important for u to know, like that of transition elements (A2). Try to relate ur practicals with your theory as far as possible.

Hope my advice has been helpful to u. good luck! ;)
