9709 is the syllabus code and the option code depends what papers you want to take.
you may take are
P1 and M1
or
P1 and S1
and i think the varient was 2

for maths..syllabus code is 9709....and...for P1 varient can b 11 or 12 or 13.....for M1...varient can b 41 or 42 or 43...for S1 varient can b 61 or 62 or 63 and for p2 varient can b 21 or 22 or 23..!! now...it depends on ur centre..or esp the british council..!! for the theory papers....

P1 and M1

P1 and S1
what is the difference

"P" stands for Pure Mathematics. This is compulsory, usually. You take P1 AS year and then P2/P3 A2 year.
"M" stands for Mechanics.
"S" stands for Statistics.

You can choose between mechanics and statistics, they are up to you (or up to your school atleast).
P4 is mechanics 1. P5 is mechanics 2.
P6 is statistics 1. P7 is statistics 2.

Usually people take M1 in AS year and S1 A2 year. Or you could choose to take M2 instead of stats, or vice versa.
