Hello everybody. I was reading about people posting about 4 AS subjects and 3 A level subjects in CIE A levels exam. Actually i need a bit of clarification on this. How is this possible. Do we drop any subject in A2 that is A level? Or we take all components of an subject in the AS level? Help would be appreciated. :)

Hi!

Almost all the subjects in A levels have 2 levels of qualification: Advanced subsidiary Level and Advanced Level. They may have decided to not study a certain subject to full A level. I also did the same thing with Biology, I chose not to continue it to A levels since past O levels I'm appearing privately without tuitions(for financial reasons) and I didn't want to overstretch myself. At graduating, I'll have completed 5 AS level exams, and 4 A level exams. Simple.

Thank you for your reply!
A few more questions regarding your response. By not continuing to full A level you mean that taking the AS components of the subject but not the A level components. So in way the qualification remains incomplete? Right? So in the case of mathematics it would mean taking P1 and S1/M1 but not P2/P3 and or M2/S2 in the next year? And another query, subjects we drop in A levels (like we do not continue from AS level), do they appear in the certificate of A levels or not?
Your help is appreciated. :)

Hey sajid :)
As level qualification is considered single credit and A level as double credit. Some subjects are As only such as GP and some A level only such as Further Math.
Most subjects can be done for eother A level or As level. In first year students give As then A2. For math u can see in the syllabus which papers are needed for as and which for A. And those papers u give together in one session appear in one single certificate.

Suchal what a pleasant surprise to see you here! What i actually mean is that can we only do the AS components of a specific subject like chemistry which is P1 and P2 i guess and NOT continue it onto A levels? Will that be of any use in university qualifications??
Thank you!

it is a complete AS level. and that is what i am saying. university considers AS level as one credit and A level as double credit. As level and A level are complete qualification. like u do A level in Math and Physics if u want to make carrier in Physics and do As level in sociology and second language english. You will get cambridge AICE diploma for two subjects in As level and two in A level. U can do graduation from any university in the world. but if u do As in physics that it is not possible to do graduation in physics.
