Help with May/June maths paper 12

Hey guys!

Maths Paper 2 Extended is on Wednesday and there are two questions that bugged me in Paper 22 of the May/June session. I was hoping someone could explain to me how to do these two questions:

  • 17; parts b) and c)
  • 18; part a)

The questions are on pages 10 and 11 respectively and here is the exam paper for those who don't have it:
