An Oxidant is a substance that itself reduces and oxidizes the other substance with which it reacts. So, it is an electron acceptor. It accepts electrons making its oxidising state decrease in number.

A little tip!

Well basically, an oxidant does gain electrons since it loses one of its oxygen atoms, so it gains more electrons to be able to stay constant, whereas a redundant loses electrons as it gains a new oxygen atom, but it has to let go of some of its electrons to do so.
Oxidation does not have to include gaining oxygen and losing hydrogen only, but it can also take place without those two elements, where it loses one or more electrons.
