How sucsuessful was India in political development from 1909 to 1919?
Discuss:
-Morley Minto Reforms
-Lucknow Pact
-Montague Chelsmford
-Rowlatt act.

Give a small back ground to each and explain each of their importance.
Eg morley minto helped allow indians a greater say in they were governed. They were now allowed by the British to be in representative governments. Muslims were given separate electorates a separate identity.
And yeah then conclusion.

MUSLIM league began to demand for self rule and since INC had also raised same demand under name of swaraj movement it bought the two parties closer and jinnah was also succesful in convincing the two parties to reach some agreement in lucknow pact in 1916.Muslim and indians decided to urge the britain to grant self governance and introduce substantial reforms after the war as a step towards that goal.Under the act Propotionate elections of representatives of india and muslims in indian legislature were settled. This pact proved to be great event of hindu muslim unity and reflected moderate elements in INC.it was the first and only time that hindu muslim leaders were agreeing to a mutually accepted solution to problems of indians in subcontinent.
British took problems of subcontinent after the first world war but shortly afterwads chelmsford reforms came about.....and u can continue the answer

Moplah Uprising:
At Tirur, deeply religious Muslims, know as MOPLAHS (Muslims of South India) started a revolt against the British, and Hindu Landlords in August 1921. They were able to take over a police station, and seize arms and equipment. However, the British were soon to respond, and the fighting between the Moplahs and British resulted in 4000 deaths of Muslims.

Political Development:
1909 - Morley Minto Reforms
1911 - Reversal of Partition of Bengal
1913 - Muslim League changes its aims to "A form of self government suitable to india."
1916 - Lucknow Pact
1919 - Montague Chelmsford Reforms
1919 - Rowlatt Act (Not sure, but it did cause anger, and the Amritsar Massacre)
1919 - Start of the Khilafat Movement

In this,
Morley minto a success for Muslims, as they were granted separate electorates, and greater percentage of seats than their population percentage.
However, they were a failure of the British, as they were opposed by the Hindus, who did not see any type of self government in them.

Reversal was a failure of the British as it caused unrest among the Muslims, who felt betrayed, and all the feeling of goodwill between the communities ended.
The change of aims, was a success for the Muslims, as it made sure to the British that the locals, wanted self government, and it united the hindus and Muslims

The lucknow pact was a success for both the Muslims and Hindus, as the Hindus recognized the rights and interests of the Muslims, and they both made specific demands to the Government, (write about the important demands, such as the majority of elected seats in councils, provincial autonomy.)
The Report of 1919, was a success in the sense that it was the first report of the British, which showed some kind of self goverenment. However, the report was also a failure, as it was inadequate, and opposed, by both the Hindus and Muslims

Rowlatt act - Big failure
Khilafat Movement - Start of it, could be said to have been a success, as it brought about hindu muslim unity, and was merged with the non cooperation movement.

Thus, i conclude by saying, that though there were important political developments during the periods, it can be seen that the British were reluctant in giving concessions to the Muslims. So it can be said, that there was minimal development in the field of politics.

If i've missed something, or gotten something wrong, plz correct me

bro everything is fine but i dont think reversal of partition of bengal to be included since it didnt had any political devalopment in it it was just done to avoid political unrest and to avoid problems for the govt...political devalopments were only morley minto montague chelmsford and lucknow pact.....i guess these three are mentioned in mark schemes
