The Question is :

Was the Cripps Mission in 1942 the most important factor during the 1940s that led to the partition of the sub-continent in 1947? Give reasons for your answer. (14)

Can the elections of 1945-46 be the most important factor? Since their results imprinted the fact that the League was an equal force in politics as the Congress. Hence, the Pakistan Resolution too gained recognition...

But the confusion is... the Direct Action Day also affected to a great extent...

I'm not sure about direct action day, but I think that the Simla Conference was a pretty important factor too. The fact that the British proposed an equal number of Hindus and Muslims on the Executive Council proved that the Muslims were a major social group in India. Furthermore, it implied that they were treated as an equal to the Congress. This inevitably meant that Muslims had a say in how they were to be governed in the future, which led to independence.

Basically, your conclusion can be anything you believe as long as you justify it.

And btw, how did Direct Action Day 1946 help for the creation of Pak?

i think that on that day when the muslims had direct action day..... they were determined to make sure that the british solved their problems before leaving and leaving the problems in hands of the hindus which was dangerous for the muslims............. THEY NEEDED TO INDICATE THE STRENGTH OF THE MUSLIMS TO BOTH CONGRESS ANS BRITISH.

this caused the british and hindus to realise that partition was necessary as it was demand of the muslims

Yes right. It had a strong impact on the British as it triggered communal violence. I meant to ask if it is possible that some candidates consider it as a factor since it is apparently a very small event.

However, elections for me seem to be more important since the Simla conference failed and the election results led to future events being planned with as equal consultation of the league as of congress, for instance, the cabinet mission plan included a reference to a separate state with Muslim majority provinces.

It can be that Simla Conference was the most important factor for some candidates, too. As teachers always say that it depends HOW you support your opinion.

like the cripps mission is British factor so other reasons should be british factors and Indian factor may be Lahore resolution so other factors should also be indian like Quit India
