I am also taking 19th century history.
These websites might be helpful to you, and there is a video on paper 2 source questions.

My main problem is 1848 revolutions and japan. If you find anything on that let me know please.

Yeah, I've already been using these, they're so general, no details. but thank you :)
for 1848 revolutions i just searched generally on the internet,
i found some youtube videos, you might find them useful,
Sparknotes is good too, just know the main events that happened, reasons for failure, that's it.

Thanks I will check out some of the websites & videos. What don't you understand about German Unification cause I am an expert on that topic. I will try to scan some pages of textbook and them upload them, cause that is how i learned German Unification quickly. Also do past papers on German unification and use the mark scheme and the examiners report. It speeds up the learning process.

hey what topics do you think are going to come in the exam for paper 1?
i dont plan on revising all 7 of them.
since paper 2 is civil war its less likely, and my depth study is industrial rev. so now 5 more.
out of unifications ill either do germany or italy :s

I really don't know what topics are going to come for paper 1. The only thing I know for sure is that an American Civil War question is going to come. I have not seen a single past paper where that topic did not come. Then the American Civil war is followed up by either Japan or World War 1. I am 100 % sure that American Civil War will come and I am 99 % sure that it will be followed up by a question on Japan or World War 1. But you should know American Civil War and World War 1 first, those topics are really easy. The topics that I know very well are German Unification, World War 1 and American Civil War.

By the way the paper 2 for American Civil War is going to be on reconstruction, check the 2013 syllabus.

reconstruction only are you suree ? :s
i'll study it alot because of paper 2 anywayy. source-type questiions are seriously hard ://
yeah i've been tracking the past papers too, but i assumed that a paper 2 topic wouldn't come in paper 1.
if you're right, then im ready. i know japan, ww1, civil war and industrial rev reaaally well
the easiest thing to study though is revolutions, the questions are always repeated.

thanks aloot.
whats ur depth study btw ?

My depth study is Germany. And I am 100% sure that reconstruction/consequences is going to be paper 2, it is clearly stated in our syllabus. '' Candidates answer a series of questions on one Prescribed Topic.
The Prescribed Topics include one 19th century topic and one 20th century topic, taken from the Core
Content (see Sections 4.1 and 4.2).

For the examination in 2013 the topics will be:
19th century core: What were the consequences of the American Civil War? (May/June examination)
or What caused the First World War? (November examination)

20th century core: Were the Peace Treaties of 1919–23 fair? (May/June examination)
or How effectively did the USA contain the spread of Communism? (November examination)''

If you think you are ready for the exam look at the 2013 syllabus and make sure you can answer all the questions under the topics you will answer in the exam.

I also find paper 2 to be quite challenging, but when i look at the grading threshold it always brings my grade up.

Ohhh your right, that does mean only reconstruction :ss danng i was hoping to get sth on lincoln :/
one question will probably be about the freedmans thing and the voting and stuff. do you ever search sources and try to analyse them tho? thats what i struggle in, i only see the obvious.

haha i dont mark my own paper 2 because the marksheme is shit and has no real answers. but i never really looked at the thresholds, accordingly at school i've been getting A so thats greatt. yeah, i've listened to the podcast; providence, bias/unbiased reliable/unreliable and cross reference ;D

thankyouu !

btw what variant are you taking? i'm doing 2, and for every variant 2 pastpaper there is a civil war q but not on variant 1, that can have both japan and ww1. :cautious:

also i forgot to mention this other website which has a bit of everything. its most useful for american civil war, but apparently you're already an expert on that :p

Same here I can only see what the source has directly said, I can never read between the lines. The political cartoons are fairly easily for me but i struggle to analyse the sources in depth. Although the mark scheme is useless, i find the examiners report to be very useful for sources, this is because it states what candidates to wrongly, and it helps not make the mistakes they did.

Thanks for the website i will check it out.

I do not remember mentioning anything about the variants?

i'll try that. :/

Yeah, but i've checked the pastpapers and no civil war does not come on every single paper. but for variat 2 yes there has been...
also there is a changing pattern of german and italian unification every alternating session. the last one was german.
and the one topic you can be 99% coming is revolutions. that one has always come up except in 2011 in a variant.

Oh sorry for the wrong information, but you still should learn it cause it will be helpful for paper 2. Yeah revolutions come like every year, but that is my weakest topic, but i am reading right it now so i can become better at it.

I will make sure i study Italian unification very well.

Yeah, true. I predicted that they would probably ask about France and either Austria or Germany for revolutions but they're all easy.
Anyway good luck ! I hope this exam will be easy
You're taking it on the 7th?

If you were asked to describe the 1848 revolutions in Venice what would you say?

Also why do you think they will ask about revolutions in France, Austria and Germany. Is there some specific pattern that the papers have been following for 1848 or is it just a hunch ?

Well just describe the events that took place, first of all it was under Austrian control, (this was the kindom of lombardy-venecia ruled by ferdinand)
The '5 days of Milan' forced Austrians to leave the city, and one day later Venice started a small-scale revolution against the Austrians, persuading them to surrender. The independent venetian republic of st mark was proclaimed and they formed a provisional government. In 1849, after the Battle of Custoza, after the austrians had defeated the army of charles albert, they marched into Venetia and restored Austrian control.
But this would probably only be a 5 mark question and you could stretch it out easily.

Because they have limited questions to ask, and they're in no shortage of topics, definitely the questions will be repeated not the ones from last year, thats too predictable so i dont think they would get the topics that appeared on the 2012 paper. Yes its just a presumption, but to be safe do all the past paper questions on this topic. you'll see how similar the answers are.
